question and use of pivot table

I have unemployment numbers for many counties by a month basis over several years. The counties are the columns and the months are the rows. I need to average the unemployment numbers for the months of each year so that i can produce an average unemployment for each year. Would a pivot table help me on this issue and how would i do this?
