Hi

I did write only this code [red]#,###
now when I type positive or negative numbers they will show as expected but when I type
0 nothing appears? and when I type Text, text will be shown but in black color

Why the above code applied to negative numbers? I thought it would apply on positive numbers only. Then why not 0?

Thanks a lot.

It is not clear what your actual question is; however, if you want 0 to display and be displayed in red, then use this Custom Format Type pattern instead of the one you posted...

[red]#,##0

Are you using that as a number format?

If you are how do you want the numbers formatted?

Thanks all for your reply. I selected a cell and went to custom formatting and entered this code
[red]#,###

Now if I enter 55 or -55 then I see the number a red (so far so good)
when I enter 0 (as a number) then I do not see anything!! why not? why excel does not display 0?
When I type Hello, I see Hello in black

My question, that code I entered why it did apply on -ve number?
I thought I need to do this [red]#,###;[blue]#,###
so the code can applied on -ve number

the first code [red]#,### I thought should be only applied on +ve numbers

Thanks

No I did not actually. I just tried it and it works.
What I was focusing on is that, I do not have the 0 part in the format

positive;negative,zero,text

ok I learnt something now. Thank you all.
