Hi all! I am trying to create a chart with data that refreshes every month. I get new data every month, but when I go to chart it, it puts all the information on the same horizontal axis. For reference...

Data Month</SPAN>Product</SPAN>Nov-12</SPAN>Dec-12</SPAN>Jan-13</SPAN>Feb-13</SPAN>Mar-13</SPAN>
Nov</SPAN>Cars</SPAN>985</SPAN>965</SPAN>809</SPAN>802</SPAN>762</SPAN>
Dec</SPAN>Cars</SPAN>965</SPAN>869</SPAN>762</SPAN>722</SPAN>
Jan</SPAN>Cars</SPAN>869</SPAN>737</SPAN>705</SPAN>

<TBODY>
</TBODY><COLGROUP><COL span=2><COL><COL span=4></COLGROUP>

So in Nov, I was told we'd sell 762 cars in Mar-13. In Dec, it dropped to 722. I'd like to graphically depict it, but when I go to chart, it puts all the data starting in November. I would like the line in Dec to start with Dec-12, Jan in Jan-12, etc. Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Excel Facts

Copy PDF to Excel
Select data in PDF. Paste to Microsoft Word. Copy from Word and paste to Excel.
If I select your sample data and insert a column chart, Nov-12 has only one column and Dec-12 has only two. The remaining months have three. Are you doing something differently?

Thanks for the reply! I am using line charts. At any rate, in any given month, I don't look at any previous data. So in Nov, I would have a line that includes that Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb etc.... In Dec, it would start in Dec and include Jan, Feb, etc...

I want the X axis to show starting in November, and the Dec data would start there, not in November. Does this clarify the data?

Thanks again!

When you get new data select it all, including the Data Month and Product columns, right click and choose Copy. Then right click your chart and choose Paste.
