Slicers based on OLAP hierarchies

Hi all

Using pivottables from olap data sources I often use slicers for filters since end users find it easier. This works great on non-hierarchied dimensions so if for instance I select region-country=canada, then my region-city slicer will only display canadian cities to choose from (due to option to hide elements without data). But as soon as I use slicers on my date hierarchy (year e.g. 2012, month e.g. january 2013, date e.g. 23-04-2005) even after I select a certain year in the year slicer it neither sorts nor hides entries in my month and date slicer. This makes the slicers completely useless.

I've seen a suggestion to pick the attributes to sort not from the hierarchy itself but from "More fields" but in my current cube date, month and year are only present in the hierarchy and not in "More fields".

Will I have to ask our developer to change the dimension in the cube itself or is there a workaround?

Best regards and thanks in advance!

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
