Sorry I know is 101 but need 2 functions

1) Column B is names, Column C is status. Need formula to return number of incidences where "Smith" in B matches with "Customer" in C.

2) Column F is dates (but some cells will be blank). Need formula to return number of incidences where date in F will fall within current calendar year.

Try these...

1) If you're using Excel 2007 or later:

=COUNTIFS(B2:B100,"Smith",C2:C100,"Customer")

For earlier versions:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(B2:B100="Smith"),--(C2:C100="Customer"))

2)

=SUMPRODUCT(--(YEAR(F2:F100)=YEAR(NOW())))
