Morning,

I'm using excel 2007 and I'm looking at creating a speedometer/gauge Chart. How do you do this in excel 2007?

Thank you,
Jen

Hi - thanks for answering and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the offer and I'd like to see the example you have, if only to see how another person approaches the same problem. I will be looking at my formulae etc again tonight and I think I know where I went wrong in the implementation of the trigonometry, so hopefully I am close enough to a fix to be able to continue with my solution.

It would be great to share ideas however, so I'll message you here.
Thanks!

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
Have a look at this for a Carlos Fandango version:

http://www.brainbell.com/tutorials/ms-office/excel/Create_A_Speedometer_Chart.htm

Or you can just create a pie chart, add a series to your data which is set to 50% of the total values, then divide your existing values by 2.

This creates a pie chart with 1 data point taking up half the chart, and your "actual" data points making up the other half. Make the "dummy" half invisible, rotate the pie and there you have it.

Just made a spedometer, its exaclty what I want, however the needle is behind the spedometer dial.

Any ideas how to get it infront ???

Hi mate. I liked your excel version of the speedometer and would like to give it a try. Can you send me the stuff you put together as per your post back in 2011.

I am looking at something different - in a screen form or table with a 360 degree circle (visual) i want to enter in the form or cell a tidal current bearing (ie 160 degress SSE) the SSE is not important at this stage. Then I want to enter a wind bearing in another field or cell such as 270 degrees W.

What this gives me is current speed versus wind speed on a trajectory of a stricken vessel or object. for instance if at the centre point i say the current runs SSE (160) at 2 knots the the wind is blowing the object W (270) at 20 knots (wind movement is only 3% of the actual wind speed) i then have a vector of where the object will head at 30 minute intervals.
