I have 2 similar workbooks that I have been using for at least 5 years now and all of a sudden when I try to save either of them I get the following message and am unable to save any changes to the workbooks:

I haven't changed any code in either workbook. Has anyone else come across this?

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
Your file may be corrupted due to some hardware failure. Is this the case, I mean did you experience any errors on the hard disk (or SSD) where the file is located?

I've done a little more research and it appears a lot of other people are having the same problem after updating Excel, and they have rolled back to the previous build.

Can someone tell me how that is done?

Maybe there's something wrong with your workbook.
Can you try the following:
  1. Save Workbook as "Different FileName"
  2. Copy your entire Worksheet to another Workbook (right-click on a Worksheet > Move or Copy > To a new Workbook with "Create a copy" checked (do this for all Worksheets in the Workbook)

And it appears that ALL of the code in the workbook has been deleted.
Lots of folks on the MS website complaining about this for a while now. Sounds like MS doesn't know how to fix it.
