Text visible in cell and not in formula bar

The issue: text is visible in the cell but not in the formula bar and text can not be edited. I inherited a sheet from a co worker.

things I tried
Background is white text is black
Cells are not locked or hidden
No conditional formatting
the word in the cells is ready
When I turn on filters and filter the column for the word ready, ready is not an option.
Excel does not see the word ready in the cell but the text is there

I can’t change the text color background in the cell nothing
any ideas?

Is it a read only file ???

No because I can add lines to the file and for example put the words not ready in the same column and filter it

Don't know which version you are using, but is there an arrow at the RH end of the formula bar ??
Click to make the formula bar bigger and see if the text appears.
If it does I'd suggest your text has a number of leading spaces !!

I tried. I pulled down the formula bar and made it super big still no text is showing

You say "Cells are not locked or hidden "....but is the sheet protected ?
Review Tab>> UnProtect Sheet

Just figured it out the text was left justified and bleeding over to the cell to the left duh double clicked the column to full width

there was never an issue
