What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Re: Find text in a worksheet

Welcome to the board.

A more informative subject line is more likely to receive a response. "Urgent" doesn't really help you or us because it's only urgent for you, and you already know it's urgent. We need to know what your problem is or what you're trying to do. Your problem may not be perceived as urgent by people who are doing this in their spare time.

The more you can tell us in your post, the more likely you are to receive any response at all, and you're more likely to solve your problem quickly if we don't have to interrogate you for information.

So let's start:-
  • Will the "first sheet" and the "second sheet" always be the first and second sheets or could they swap places? Would it be safer to refer to them by their sheet names? What are they?
  • What letter are you looking for? Any letter at all? A particular letter? The same letter every time? A letter obtained from somewhere else in the workbook? A letter which you prompt the user for and he types it in?
  • Does it have to be the letter on its own in a cell or can it be part of a longer string? Does the case have to match (upper/lower)?
  • Where do we search in the second sheet? The entire sheet? A range of rows and/or columns?
  • What do you mean by "status"? Do you mean "Found" or "Not found"? The location of the string in the second sheet? The contents of the cell it was found in? Where do you want the status placed in the first sheet?

Thanks for the reply. Details are:
1. There are 2 sheets called sheet1 and sheet2.
2. Sheet 2's 1 column called table has to be checked(whether the 5th char is s).
3. If it is S then sheet1's cell(say A2) will get updated with found or not found.
