Hi guys

I know this may sound a little odd but I am trying to work out how to create a traffic light in excel. What I am after doing is using it on a summary for a report where if a certain value is reach the red or amber light comes and if it is below a certain value is stays green, i.e.

Red - above 70%
Amber - if between 25% and 70%
Green - below 25%

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Chris

You need to use conditional formatting to change the background colour of the cell when a particular condition is met.

Not odd at all: it's called "RAG" (red/amber/green).

Excel 2007+ includes ready-made sets of traffic lights under Conditional Formatting > Icon Sets.

Hi Hoggle

Thanks for the help, is there any way a "traffic light" could be created using VB. I know you can do buttons to perform actions but I am not sure if a "conditional traffic light" would be possible?

Many thanks

Hi Ruddles

Thanks for that, I've got Excel 2007 at home but only 2003 at work. Is there anything similar on 2003?

Many thanks

No but you can use the entire cell and set the background colour as Hoggle suggested.

Set the default background of the cell to amber and then write conditions to produce the other two colours as required.
