vlookup value in band of values

Hi,

How would I vlookup numbers within ranges of numbers?

For example, I have the following ranges of numbers
50000 100000
100001 200000

What I want to do is be able to lookup my number (say 105000) within those two ranges and do so in a formula.

Separately (and I believe this would likely have to be a different formula), I would like to be able to say if my number (x) is in between those two numbers, perform one calculation but if it falls outside of those numbers, perform a different calculation. I know an attachment would help but I can't attach here.

Try to elaborate on your objective along with an example sample. For providing a sample Attachments lists a few methods for posting sample exhibits which do not require retyping and the add-in https://app.box.com/s/soezox25h3w0q5s4rcyl is also a method for posting an exhibit (Note that an image or a link to a storage site like dropbox or onedrive etc. does not provide a permanent record.). Mind you a forum without a permanent record is not of much value.
