what is blank cell in excel?

I have a column with cells, some are blank because I hit delete and some are blank because i hit spacebar. Now when I filter this column-->Blank, excel will show me both types of cells (cells empty because i hit spacebar and delete).

Now I am confused. I thought cell that empty because spacebar are not empty really (has space as a character). I do not recall which function/tool that differentiate between both cells (empty because of delete and empty because spacebar).

A cell with a space in it is not blank, but the autofilter will trim values when creating its value list.

Should you decide you want to you can filetr Blanks a space wit Advanced Filters. But if you want blank use delete and instead of space use a marker i.e. "-" otherwise you're not going to know whether its blank or space in the cell unless you F2 it.
