Reading XML of a workbook

Hi,

By changing the extension of an xlsm file to .zip and extracting that zip folder we can see a file named "comments1.xml"

Is there a way to read cell comments from that file without zipping workbook/without opening the workbook? using VBA or any other language?

You can use VBA to change the extension to .zip, then extract whichever xml file you want. However, that process is unlikely to be any faster than opening the files in Excel, plus you'll have the added complication of identifying the comments from the xml encoding, then determining what cells they relate to, all of which creates extra overheads.
