Hello,
I have a simple issue but can't seem to figure it out. All I want is to add time and subtract time to show how many hours and minutes the difference is.
Example:
A1: 08:00 (8AM)
A2:16:30 (430PM)
A3: =A1+A2=24:30 (Format: [h]:mm)

No format combination I've come across will list 08:30. Same issue with subtracting.

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
What are you getting, when I do it and actually subtract (not add like in your posting) I get your expected result of 8:30.

Are your values maybe Text?

Again, it might help to post what you are seeing as the result of your formula.

Adding doesnt seem to work and it's as simple as my original post if I take 8:00 AM and add it to 4:30 PM which is 8 hours and 30 mins later (=A1+A2) it equals 24:30
But subtracting does work, I had an odd custom format that I got rid of. So yes, subtracting does equal 8:30, still can't figure out adding though.

Adding is going to take the two times and add them together, just like 2+3= 5, why would you expect to get a "difference" from using a sum function?

You have to subtract the End Time from the Start Time to get the difference.

I have a feeling the issue is that you are using the format with [h]. This format adds all hours together instead of looping around to the next day. I think you need to try the format something like hh:mm instead.

I agree with philwojo
Subtract A2 from A1 and you get the desired answer. I have the cells formatted as general and it works.
