Hi,

I have catalogued my record collection and wondered if there is any way to find out which Artist's name occurs most in the Artists column, I don't require a count as such I just want to put the name that occurs most in another cell for stats purposes, any ideas?

The count worked fine so I tried it from scratch agn and yay it has worked, not sure what the hell was going on but happy to finally get the formula that returns what I need, thank you so much

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Alan,

I finally got your formula returning Artists names and yes it does put the Artists in order but I found it totally ignores ties so although it returned the Bee Gees as the top artist it didn't show Al Green at all the next name it showed was the artist with the next count 'down', I have a number of ties and I can confirm it totally ignores the ties only showing the first of each alpabetically.
