I am using a formula which is returning info as a text but I want to use the data as a number. The formula is:
=LEFT(E2,FIND("-",E2)-1)
I am adding this and am getting a circular reference error. What am I doing wrong?
=VALUE(LEFT(E2,FIND("-",E2)-1),G2)

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
Circular reference is not related to text or numbers.

You are posting the formula in the same cell it is referencing, either E2 or G2.
A formula cannot reference the cell in which it resides
