Counting Formula Without Helper Column

hi all....

how to data counting without helper column
this layout :

Excel 2007

	A	B
1	data (text)	after formula (counting)
2	test-a	4
3	test-a
4	test-a
5	test-a
6	xx	1
7	ffffff	2
8	ffffff
9	w	1

I regret that I don't understand what you require.
I am assuming that you somehow want to add, by your example, 4 items of the first data, 1 of the second, 2 of the third and 1 of the last through a VBA program but you don't want those counter values to appear.

Can you please explain better what you need?

Put this formula in B2, then copy it down:

=IF(COUNTIF($B$2:$B2,B2)=1,COUNTIF(B:B,B2),"")

should be =IF(COUNTIF($A$2:$A2,A2)=1,COUNTIF(A:A,A2),"")

In B2 enter and copy down:

=IF(ISNA(MATCH(A2,$A$1:A1,0)),COUNTIFS($A$2:$A$9,$A2),"")

which should be a tad faster.
