I want to use data validation in cell B2 based on cell A1, such that If A1 (reference cell) is blank prompt the message "Enter value to A1 first", otherwise accept the input value in B2. Anybody could help? I am using Excel 2010.

Excel Facts

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce

I don't have Excel 2010 but this should be about the same as it is in Excel 2007.

Select cell B2
Goto the Data tab>Data Tools group>Data Validation
Allow: Custom
Formula: =A1<>""
Uncheck Ignore Blank
Click on the Error Alert tab
Under Title enter something like: Invalid Entry
In the Error message box enter something like: Enter a value in cell A1 first.
OK out
