Hi, I have an older xls that was copied from another hard disk, endured at least two system wipes... thing is, now the creation date is more recent that the modified date, which in turn is, from what I reckon far from the actual creation date, as I've worked a long time on this file.

I am wondering if there's any way I can find a more reliable dating of its contents, be it from the comments or other thing inside the file.

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
I don't know if this value survives what you put that file through, but give it a try and see. Load the file and then run this code line in the Immediate Window and see if it reports a date that meshes with your memory of when the file might have been created...

MsgBox ThisWorkbook.BuiltinDocumentProperties("Creation Date")
