I am using data validation to create some drop down menus. The same drop down menus are used in loads of different workbooks. I believe there is a way you can link to a master workbook so that every time I update the drop down I don't have to go in and out of every workbook, I can just change the master and all the other workbooks will follow.

Also there is an option in the drop down 'other' and we need people to fill in the cell to the right to say what 'other' is. People aren't doing this so we wondered if there was any way for the cell on the right of the drop down to flash or something when this option was selected?

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.

For this part use Conditional Formatting. If your drop-down is in cell A1, then:
1. Select B1
2. Format|Conditional Formatting...|Condition 1|Formula is: =A1="Other"|Format|Patterns|choose your colour|OK|OK
