Excel for Patient Appointment Management

However labor intensive, to what extent can Excel be utilized to effectively manage patient pre-operative clinic appointments (in a near automated manner) whilst also:
* controlling the allotment of surgical clinic slots (as a percentage of total pre-operative clinic slots)
* automatically/systematically blocking Case Manager editing functions on every third future business day beyond a given present day
* allowing for relatively simplistic access to reports based on data complied in worksheets, ie, patient no-show rates, missed-opportunities, pre-
operative clinic slot utilization. Pivot tables/charts will yield this information, however, retrieving the information may be cumbersome for lay-
users (thinking one click, one comprehensive report)

I'm not certain if VBA is the best way to effectively achieve the above-listed goals. Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.
