Hello - I'm having a hard time figuring out the Excel formula for the scenario below:

Known:
a = $140,000
b = 10%
c = $154,000

Formula: =a+(a*b) = c
$140,000+($140,000*10%) = $154,000

Scenario: I want to produce the same outcome ($154,000) with adjusted variables. If I drop the value of b to 5%, what is the formula to calculate the adjusted value of a?
a = unknown
b = 5%
c = $154,000

a+(a*5%) = $154,000 *Obviously this is not the formula, I'm just trying to illustrate what I need help figuring out - which is the value of "a"

Thanks in advance!

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Your formula could be changed to:
a*(1+percent)=c
$140,000*1.10=$154,000
so
a = unknown
b = 5%
c = $154,000

a= $154,000/1.05
Book1
ABC
1$ 140,000.001.1$ 154,000.00
2$ 146,666.671.05$ 154,000.00

Thank you SO much! I really appreciate you helping me and also not making me feel embarrassed. I can't believe how simple that was!
