In Excel 97:

The formula isn't showing in the formula bar / line when I pick the cell that is supposed to contain a FORMULA! Only the result of the formula shows. I cannot copy/paste the formula to other cells because Excel thinks it (the formula) is not there.

Is this a formatting issue - OR - is there a setting to 'show the formula' - INSTEAD -of just the result?

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Tools --> Options -->View --> check Formula bar

Oh, you mean, you click the cell that supposedly contains the formula, and the formula isn't there? Haven't heard of that one. Maybe I can learn something here :) .

Try this:

Format --> Cells --> Protection --> and check to see if the Hidden is checked. If so, uncheck it, and unprotect the sheet. HTH.
