I want to calculate inches for the number of gallons filled in a tank so I need a formula for that.

Tank size = 6000 Gallons
Size = 96 * 192
1 inch can have 16 gallons (I need a formula for that). For example, if my tank contains 1000 gallons, how many inches is that?

Hello,

The data in your table seems to have been rounded to the nearest gallon. (Looking at columns 2&3)

But the 'tank' doesn't seem to be uniform.

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.
Perhaps, do you know the actual shape of your tank, I did not see it stated any place and the capacities will vary by shape. I only worked off the numbers you provided. Additionally, we do not know what the tank is filled with. Is it water, gasoline, LNG, or liquid mercury.

Its horizontal tank for gasoline

Can you get your numbers from the sheet you posted to match the website.

Hello,

The numbers have been rounded, the exact formula will be difficult to find.

For the 3rd column the formula is ABOUT - =1.5*A1^2+17.8*A1 (where A1 is the number of inches)

It would have helped if you would have mentioned what shape the tank is.
If it would be a round tank, standing up with a diameter of 96 inches and a height of 192 inches, 1 inch would be 31.3 gallons (twice what you mention).

Hi,

It isn't a regular solid; so the formulae for regular solids will not be applicable. That is why the increments in gallons are not uniform: and the data has been rounded to the nearest gallon.
