Hi,

I wonder if anyone could kindly help me.
I apologize in advance if the terminology I use is wrong, but I will try to explain my problem in best way I can, and I'm praying it makes sense to you guys!

I have two separate excel documents.

In excel document 1, A5 to A596 contain the names of customers.

In excel document 2 (i.e. not a separate sheet at the bottom of the page, it's a completely new excel file) I have 643 more names (A1 ti A643)

Is there a way that I can cross reference the two files, and remove from excel document 2 the names of clients that have been duplicated?

If so, could some please kindly share with me how I can do it?

I am using Excel 2010 and have been reading forums/yahoo answers/watching youtube videos for the past hour but I either dont understand the answers or cant get it to work.

I would be so grateful for any assistance.

Thank you so much.

Emma

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
open both workbooks in the same instance of excel ( use file open to source the books )

Then use VLOOKUP both sides

VLOOKUP(A15,[Book3]Sheet1!$A$7:$B$24,1,FALSE)

start with Thisworkbook
choose a suitable column

start like =VLOOKUP(yourkey, 'note the comma
Now on the menu select View then Switch windows from the menu

Highlight the key list in the otherworkbook so it the formula starts looking like =VLOOKUP(yourkey,[otherworkbook]Sheet1!$A$7:$B$24 'note use of $

Then type ,1, false)

=VLOOKUP(yourkey,[otherworkbook]Sheet1!$A$7:$B$24,1,FALSE)

if it returns #N/A it doesn't exist in the otherworkbook, if it returns the same key it does!!

Copy formula down the column to use against all keys.

Then do the same thing the other way round, use the otherworkbook and Vlookup thisworkbook
