I want to compare year to date data against a budget and against prior years. How do I set my sum formula up so that I can easily update the second variable?

EXAMPLE

If during the year I want to sum cells B3:M3, how do I set the sum formula up so that it starts at B3 and "runs" a certain number of columns.

Any ideas? I was thinking I could do it with the index or indirect formula or something.

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
You can try the Offset function.

=SUM(OFFSET(B3,0,0,5,1))

The 5 will represent the total number of columns to sum (including B)
