Im looking for a formula which would look at cell A1 and A2, if A1 contained the words MES and A2 was blank it would show on A3 Yes. Thank you.

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
Sort by date Sort by votes
Enter into cell A3:

Cell A1 contains values like MES123, MES2334, so the formula would need to pick the MES portion and exclude anything after MES. Thank you.

Would the "MES" part always be at the beginning of the entry?
If so, then try:

=IF(AND(LEFT(A1,3)="MES",A2=""),"Yes","")
