So Index/Match is a great tool but I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around this... I want to return a field called "Date" to "Table1" from "Table2" using a common field of "Ticket" but i keep breaking things.. Kind of like a Vlookup but without the first column restriction...

Thanks in advance Dean

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
this should work if you input it into table 1 column you want to populate =INDEX(Table2[Date],MATCH(Table2[Ticket],[Ticket],0)).
You have to make sure your ranges are tables (relevant table called Table2 for this to work) and when writing the formula select the relevant columns by hovering cursor over column headings, until the arrow turns black.
