SumIf function help please. URGENT

What does this formula mean? I've learned how to doSumIf functions from a tutorial vide online but i don't understand what i'm supposed to do for this

=SUMIF('$data'!$A:$A,$A12,'$data'!E:E)

usually sum If functions are in the form:

SUMIF (range,criteria, [sum_range])

The $A12 is the criteria. That formula is returning the sum of the column E values, whose value in column A is the same as is in A12.

It wouldn't surprise me if that formula was in some column of row 12.

In sheet 'Data' sum column E where Column A cells Matches to cell A12 in your current sheet where formula is placed.

This formula is on an analytics tab for a project i need to do in which I have to update the Analytics tab so that it incorporates all of the new weekly data from the 3 other tabs ( that i already updated)

can someone please help explain how i would do this?

To Further elaborate on my reply above. This is the email he sent me with the task that he wants me to do:

Nabil,
Attached is the data I’d like you to update. The “Nabil’s Data Project” file is where you’ll be working in. Then there are 3 files with updated data. Your task is to take the data in the following three files and update the corresponding sheets in the Data Project file:

JamBandit-In App Purchases-IAP Items-IAP Revenue >> $data
JamBandit-In App Purchases-IAP Items-IAP Units >> unitdata
JamBandit-App Downloads-Country-Downloads >> #downloads

There are 4 tabs in the original Nabils data project file. JP analytics is the first tab and $data, unitdata and downloads are the 3 other tabs which i already updated to match the information. The only problem i have is getting the first tab (JP analytics) which has a cell with the formula i posted on the thread to incorporate the now updated other 3 tabs.

Can someone please help me with this it would be greatly appreciated
