SUMPRODUCT, selecting a range to count

Hi, I need to count not one value, but a range of values.

Specifically, I'm trying to count the number of rows which contain this range, but have proof that my effort isn't working (I checked it by adding the possibilities within this range).

My effort is:
>2<2.5

you would want to get a count of the values between 2 and 2.5, correct?

if so, then you could try something like this:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A1000 > 2)*--(A1:A1000 < 2.5))

A well-formed version would be...

Either:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A1000 > 2),--(A1:A1000 < 2.5))

Or:

=SUMPRODUCT((A1:A1000 > 2)*(A1:A1000 < 2.5))

oh, if you wanted to include them, then:

=SUMPRODUCT((A1:A1000 >= 2)*(A1:A1000 <= 2.5))

I believe that two COUNTIFs would be faster than a SUMPRODUCT here (you can also use entire column references, but defining column size will affect speed):

=COUNTIF(A:A,"<=2.5")-COUNTIF(A:A,"<2")
