I'm working with a very complex and comprehensive spreadsheet I inherited. It contains historical data going back several years and includes multiple Vlookup formulas. In their infinite wisdom some higherup on the food chain than me have decided to change the name of some of the items (about 50) that are referenced in the Vlookups. If I change the Vlookup to match the new name, it screws up all historical data.

Can there be a Vlookup that asks

Vlookup this name between these dates and after that date Vlookup this new name

An alternative "could" be to copy/paste values for some of the older data but that won't work here.

Thanks in advance

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
