Need some help, please....

Range C4:C8 is named TOL
Range D4:D8 is named NumOccurences

B C D
NAME TOL # Occurences
Andrea Absent 1
Cathy Tardy .5
Marc Missed Clock 1
Andrea Absent 1

I have a summary sheet with four separate boxes for each TOL, and a simple VLookup works fine to give me totals for each type of TOL:

Example: =SUMIF(TOL,"Absent",NumOccurences)

But, if I want to get the summary sheet totals for each type of leave based on a person's name that is in another cell, I would need a formula that says, 'find this person's name, then do a SUMIF only for that person.

I can't figure out the syntax.

Thanks!

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
Change it to a SUMIFS to work with the multiple criteria

=SUMIFS(NumOccurences,"B:B","Andrea",TOL,"Absent")

just change the name to whatever you would like
