Won't stay in Design Mode

When I click on the DesignMode icon, it flashes & immediately returns to normal mode.

Further symptom: 2x per second flashing of the title bar on the VBE window. VBA seems to be switching from the selected module to something else that flashes by too fast to see.

Similar behavior occurs even if I switch to another file in VBE, such as funcres.

Everything goes back to normal if I close the problem file.

Problem disappears if I set Excel to manual recalculation, but recurs if I switch back to auto.

I've tried the following, but nothing seems to work
  • Creating and editing a macro
  • Closing and reloading the file
  • Closing and restarting Excel
  • Restarting Windows
  • Saving the file under a different name, then closing & reloading

Running Office2010 under Win7. (Problem does not appear if I switch to a different machine.) Hmmm. Maybe reinstall Office?

Do you hate GETPIVOTDATA?
Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off
The problem file, I assume has some macros. Perhaps open the file without enabling macros and see if you can work some of the issues out. You may need to make sure that the worksheet subs that are being used are not causing it to run repeatedly. Other than that without more information I am not sure where to go.

Thanks, Brian. I was able to isolate the problem by deleting tabs one by one until normality returned. Then I reopened the file and will now remove the macros in that tab until isolating the bad guy. Brute force strategy, but it works!
