I am looking to add a function to a number of workbooks that are used for tracking compliance. I would like excel, on open, to look into a dormant workbook and check a column of data. If a yes exist then a msgbox deploys with the pertinent warning.

I am not certain exactly how to have excel look into (without opening) the dormant workbook. Also would it be able to read a value and change the value from yes to say sent? or a date?

Once i know if this is possible, I will start writing it.

any advice is appreciated

thanks,

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
