Protection AND auto filter.

Is there a way to protect certain cells and still continue to use the auto filter function?

I used data validation (using a very unlikely data entry range) to protect the entry but the user can still delete the data in the cell. I would like to protect it all but still allow them the ability to use the auto filter.

Any thoughts?
