Subtotals

When I select all of the lines in a worksheet and go to Data -> Subtotals, the subtotals of each item are listed and then there is a grand total at the bottom. Normally, there is also a section that shows on the left side of the page that has little numbers and + and - buttons that can be pushed to expand or collapse the nested subtotals. For some reason, these buttons on the side are not showing up anymore. I need them to be there, but I'm not sure how to get them back! Please help ASAP!

Hi Brea, from the main menu select Data|Group and Outline|Auto Outline.

Brea, the Data | Group and Outline | Auto Outline
menu command will irreversibly alter the outline
created by the Subtotal command. Before you
take this step you may want to check the
Tools | Options... menu command's View tab to
see if "Outline symbols" check box has been
deselected. If it is still checked, then someone
must have cleared the outline. If that's the
case I'd recommend that you restore it by redo-ing
the Subtotal command with the "Replace current
subtotals" checked.
