dates

Hi
Most accountants I know enter dates as for example
112233 which equals 11/22/33. How can I perform this
feat automatically in Excel? In other words, in a date formated column I would want to be able to enter as above and if I only entered 22 it would be implied that the date is 02/22/02 or if I enter 322 it would
be implied that the date is 03/22/02 and so forth.

There must be a way already built in to Excel?

Thanks

Will

No there is not a built in way to do this in Excel. Question: if you type in 122 how would the program know if you meant 1/2/02 1/22/02 or 12/2/02? See what I mean? You could write an easy VBA macro that would convert a six number entry to a date upon entry, but you start getting in to some trouble if you try to make the computer guess what you mean when you type 22, etc.

If you need more help and are not in a hurry, you can email me.
