Is there a way of having the time an entry is put into a spreadsheet stored by default in another column on the same spreadsheet. My problem is that each time an entry is added all of the time values are updated.

Not what you asked for but,

have you had a look at the track changes option under tools. This records the time and who changed it in a comment.
