Excel 97

Posted by Kevin on February 11, 2002 11:54 AM

I am getting an "performed illegal operation" error when I open my Excel 97 and type an = sign in the box. Text by itself is fine, but when I put that = sign in a box, it errors out.
I have tried reinstalling Office but to no avail.
Would you have any ideas on what I can do to rectify this problem?
Thanks,

Kevin,

I had this exact same problem just a few days ago.... "Excel has caused an error in EXCEL.EXE"
whenever I started a formula with "=".

I un-installed excel and reinstalled from CDROM, problem solved.

Hopefully it's just co-incidence, otherwise it might be a file we've both used from another poster or add-in or something from a suggested link....

weird that, the exact same crash method !
