are these glitches?

I'm working with a reasonably large file (10000 rows) in Excel 2000 and have come across two problems - minor ones, but disturbing ones.

Does the TRIM function not always work? I tried it on the string "A 1326 A" and had to manually delete the spaces in between. Are some ascii characters not visible?

I pasted a large amount of rows - maybe 2000 - from one worksheet to the large one I'm working on now. As soon as it copied over, a section of the this selection turned yellow. I tried un"Fill Color", but no luck. What's going on?

Removes all spaces from text except for single
spaces between words.

Did you check for the presence of a Conditional
Format?
