Conditional formatting

How do I copy a conditional format to several cells and have the formula point to the appropriate cells? When I copy a cell, with a condition to set a1 red if it is greater than a2 and paste it to b1. The condition still looks at a2 not b2. Is it possible, I have several cells to do?

Thanks,

Mark

Highlight the range you want, e.g. a1:h1
(note make sure you start at a1 and select left to right)
goto conditional formating_cell value_greater than (from the the drop down list)
then type in a2 in the next box:
you could also click in the box and select a1 off the sheet, BUT you must then remove the $ from the $a$1 it puts in the box.
format how you like and hey presto!!

should do the trick.

I think your problem may be that you have $'s in your conditional formating which means that it will always look at a1 for it's source.

By the way you could use this in just one cell and copy it to the one's you need (NT)

Ian:

Thanks it works great. When I copied the condition looked at the first cell the condition was based on for all the cells, I'm not sure why. Must have been the $.

Thanks again,

Mark
