Comments don't always print / URGENT!!!

Posted by bobbalou on March 17, 2001 10:08 PM

I sent out 350 budget packets requiring cost center managers to comment on every dollar in their budget. I am hearing back that the comments, when printed, are either printing only the cell address where the comments are, or printing only the first comment of each page. I have two print macros as menu items. The first menu item prints the whole packet without comments, while the second print menu prints the comments along with the page with the comments. (This is a 17 page packet.)

I had one of the managers who was having this problem email theirs in. I checked it and had the same problem, I checked file/setup/comments at end of page, and also under the tools/options menu's, they were both set properly. I finally got the comments to print after many tries later. What seemed to do it was saving the packet, totally getting out of Excel and coming back in, but this takes alot of patience and much paper to finally get it to work. I don't have time, or paper, to do this for 100 managers. They are all novices. I asked one manager who called in to try this, but it didn't work.

Any ideas of how to remedy this?

I did have a programer download into the packet the current years' budget, but that is on a page not requiring comments. The pages are locked except for objects. This is a mess....please help...I've got to resolve this Monday morning. Thank-you!

Hi bobbalou

I have seen this before and I feel confident that the problem is due to the cell Comments being to close to your page breaks. Paste link below from the Microsoft Knowledge Base for a full decription.

Good luck

Thanks Dave for your reply. Each page in the packet is at least 90 lines long and 12 columns wide, the rest is hidden. The manager is to place a comment in column A in a designated cell every 10-12 lines, up to 5 comments a page. I tested this several times on different machines and put up to 2 pages of comments to be sure it would take....no problem then. That's why I am not sure if it is because of page breaks. Any other thoughts? Thank-you so much for your help.
