Decimal Place Formattting

Posted by Dave P. on January 10, 2001 12:23 PM

I must have a brain cramp... but I am trying to format a column of existing numbers such as;
892
786
11234
3457
Into a format with a decimal place forced at the 3rd position as follows;
.892
.786
11.234
3.457
I cannot seem to get Excel to do this... there must be an easy answer but, I am missing it... Any Help??

Tools Options Edit check Fixed decimal. Since data already
are there you need to do F2 and enter to edit.

Dave, you may find this a little easier...

1. Enter 1000 into an unused worksheet cell.
2. Copy the cell containing the value, 1000.
3. Select the cells containing the values you
want to convert.
4. Choose the Edit Paste Special... Values and
choose the 'Divide' operation.

With this approach you don't have to tamper with
the default decimal place setting and you don't
have to edit each cell in succession.
