drag and drop columns?

How do I drag a column to a new location? I've done this before but it doesn't work now. Excel 2000.

Make sure that "Allow Drag & Drop" is checked in your options. Select an entire column by clicking a column header. Move the cursor to the black border between the selected column and the next column. When the cursor becomes an arrow, hold down the left mouse button, drag the column to where you want it (press Alt to switch sheets) and let go.
