Excel Cells will not sort

When I try to sort a worksheet that is alphabetical in names to bring up the dates involved in this worksheet it says "this operation requires merged cells to be identically sized" I didn't know that I had merged any cells as it is basically just a genalogy chart with birth/death dates and name of person and cemetery.

How can I fix this?
