File will not open

A workbook file will not open. When I try, it starts to open (the hourglass appears and the bar at the bottom activates) but then it freezes. CTL/ALT/DLT shows the file is not responding and I have to shut down Excel. HELP!

Hi--
Is the file on Network? or local drive, if local drive

Network = open on another PC
Local copy over to floppy in DOS and open on another PC

Else if local reload Excel / office sounds like Excel is grumpy snake = do other Exc3el files open?
