format style

All of my spreadsheets have converted to a default format that display's commas' and decimal points' in reverse order. ($1.256,21 in stead of $1,256.21)

I have work on changing custom style formats with very limited success in spreadsheets that I am working in. However when I open a new sheet I have the same problem. I have hours invested in trying to fix this annoying problem. Please help!

It's not an Excel formatting issue. Somehow you've
managed to change your system's configuration
to a European standard. If you're using Windows
take a look at your Regional Settings Properties
and check the decimal and digit grouping symbols.
