Maximum number of worksheets

THis seems like a trival question to me. I know the maximum number of columns and rows in a worksheet, but how many worksheets can you have in a workbook? I set up a macro to carry on adding workbooks and it got to 908, and then stoppped. Then I tried to insert a new worksheet and it allowed. So how many worksheets can you have?

Hi Henry,

There is no maximum built into Excel, it's limited by your PC's memory and other hardware. The PC I'm sat in front of now got to 5498 before it conked out and crashed everything and another PC in my office (with 512mb RAM) got to 11005.

Run in an empty workbook
use ctrl break to stop

Sub AddSheet()
Do
Sheets.Add
Loop
End Sub
