Maximum size of single cell in Excel97 ??

Posted by Patrick Van Osta on July 10, 2001 10:05 AM

I've been told that the maximum size of a single cell in Excel97 is somewhere around 32KB. However, If I type inside a cell, I can only get about 8 lines of text in, before running out of space.
Can anyone confirm what the max size of a cell is, or what I'm doing wrong?
I'd appreciate a response to
pvanosta@pacificlife.com, as I won't be able to come back to this forum too often.

Thank you for your input.

It is 32,000! Begin by typing an apostrophe (') into
the formula bar. Next, type 1234567890. Copy the
previously entered 10 characters, and with your
insertion point at the end of the line Paste
(using Control+v) "'til the cows come home". I got
to 19,830 characters before I became bored. : )
