opening one file opens two

Double clicking on an excel file opens up 2 files at the same time. One is a copy of the other.Is there a setting to stop this?

if you click once on the file to highlight it, then hit 'Enter' to open the file, do two files open?

Does in come up with "filename:1" and "filename:2" at the top left? This would be caused by selecting Window|New Window from the menu. Just close one of them then re-save the file
